Raising money and awareness for the Peter Hughes Burn Foundation
Recently there was a story on Today Tonight about celebrity chef Matt Golinski who lost his wife and three young children in a house fire. Matt miraculously survived with burns to 40 per cent of his body. Matt, along with fellow burns survivor Grazi Lisciotto and Bali bombing survivor Peter Hughes is raising money and awareness for the Peter Hughes Burn Foundation by running the Cape to Cape marathon. 60 Minutes video featuring Turia Pitt
At our May CCBSSG meeting we were fortunate to have endurance athlete and burns survivor, Michael Hull as our guest speaker. Michael was running in the 2011 Kimberley Ultra Marathon when he and three other competitors were caught in a bush fire. Two women, Turia and Kate received burns to 80 per cent of their body, while Michael’s injuries resulted in burns to 20 per cent of his body. A story on the events of this Ultra Marathon and a feature on the progress of Turia and Kate featured on 60 Minutes last week.
